Visit San Antonio: Tourism Development Q1 FY2023
Mexico Sales & Media Mission Spurs Game in Mexico City December 14- 18, 2022
Staff coordinated a sales and media mission to Mexico City in conjunction with the Spurs/Miami Heat game. In collaboration with the U.S. Travel Association and the U.S. Department of Commerce, we coordinated a breakfast that focused on attendance building for the upcoming IPW 2023 conference, which is scheduled to be in San Antonio May 20 -24, 2023. The primary message for the 62 participants was to register by February 3, 2023. In addition, there were several one-on-one meetings with key clients to understand the current landscape and discuss opportunities to educate travel sellers and put promotions in place that will help drive visitation in the new year.
The Spurs game took place on Saturday, December 18. To capitalize on this game, we organized messaging at the Arena de Mexico that included a jumbo digital sign on the exterior along with monitors located through the arena. We also geo-fenced the arena and sent digital ads to cell phones and hosted a 360’photo lobby activation alongside AT&T, SAP, Nike, Uber Eats, and Banco Azteca. Through a collaboration with Price Travel, one of the largest online travel agencies in Mexico, we also executed a campaign on their website, which included digital ads and a destination landing page with special offers for San Antonio. In addition, to the marketing, we also hosted 20 clients for the game.
Marriott Leisure Connection October 26 – 29, 2022
Marriott Leisure Connection is an annual event put on by Marriot International. This year the three-day program includes general sessions, one-on-one business appointments, breakout sessions, afternoon activities, and extensive food and beverage, including evening receptions and dinners hosted by the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. The overall program provides a balance of networking, education, contracting opportunities, and celebration. 40% of the attendees are customers who are wholesale executives and product managers domestically and internationally. Visit San Antonio met with 21 customers, of which eight focused on domestic markets and the rest focused on international. In addition, as a sponsor, Visit San Antonio presented IPW updates, destination details, music and dance performances that highlighted the real and true culture of our destination.

In total, Tourism Development trained up to 160 in tourism trade for both Germany and the Netherlands and promoted to 1,400 consumers in the Netherlands.
Mission Adventures Tours – NEW History through Art
As a part of our agreement, and in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture, Visit San Antonio facilitated the development of an arts-focused tour with Mission Adventure Tours. The objective was to create a guided walking tour that highlighted several art installations with intent of increasing exposure to our local art scene. The tour launched on the Mission Adventure Tours website in December, where visitors can purchase the NEW “History through Art.”
