Visit San Antonio: Legislative Affairs, October 2019
We continued our Show Us Your District Tours with District 5 and Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales. This incredible tour into the heart of the west side of San Antonio featured stops at Rosedale, Roosevelt and Elmendorf parks, Ray’s Drive In, the Vietnam Veterans Mural, Southtown Art Galleries and Freetail and Kuntsler breweries.
The stop also included a tour of the well-known landmark, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, as it was being set up for the CineFestival. Although we heavily feature the Guadalupe in our marketing efforts, it was wonderful to be able to get a behind-the-scenes tour and remind ourselves why our city and its heritage is so authentic and unique.
The councilwoman also promises that the Frito Pie from Mr. P’s is some of the best we’ll ever have and we can’t wait to get over there and try it!
The McNay Art Museum served as the stunning backdrop for our Annual Meeting on Sept. 18. We used this as an opportunity for not only a year-in-review, but also a look forward to FY2020. We discussed our coming marketing and communications plans, as well as our launch of Visit San Antonio TV.
We were thrilled that so many of our elected officials were able to join us for the breakfast reception and were able to stay for the Annual Meeting itself. Our elected official guests included: Senator Pete Flores, Representative Ray Lopez, Representative Steve Allison, Councilman Clayton Perry and, of course, our dedicated board members, Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran and Councilman Roberto Trevino.
We closed out the month attending the annual TTIA Summit as well as the Texas Association of Business National Affairs Conference. These events allowed us to connect directly with our peers from across the state at both the state and federal levels. Our attendance at the TAB National Affairs Conference provided us with the opportunity to meet directly with key federal legislators and discuss pressing federal Visit San Antonio legislative issues, including reauthorization of funding for Brand USA.
